Who Hates AI the Most?

During the early days of the modern AI boom, I remember being caught off guard by just how intense the anti-AI feelings were in a lot of my library world colleagues. That really hasn't changed; a lot of people are very passionate about this topic.

I'm using this post as a space to keep a running tab of anti-AI polls and surveys, both for the general public and the library world specifically.

Poll: Majority of voters say risks of AI outweigh the benefits [NBC News]

Article points out that the approval rating for AI is -20 but not that there is a very large "neutral" contingent for the topic.

Libraries and AI: A Study [The Memeing Librarian]

Initially I intended to only show legitimate, methodologically-sound surveys and polls here, but I found this admittedly non-scientific "poll on social media" worth including because of the depth of the anti-AI results: 94% against generative AI, 1% for, 5% unsure.

The author notes that the "social media bubble" makes this type of poll "not a perfect survey" but then goes on to use the results for the rest of the blog post.  I have no idea what the true statistics on AI favorability are for library workers. But I've been teaching about the pros and cons of AI to library workers for the past few years and I've never seen evidence of anti-AI sentiment being that widespread.

However, the rest of the blog post has fantastic thoughts and resources on AI policy in the library so still a very worthwhile bookmark!
